Sure, sometimes us authors have to grow some pretty thick skin, but it comes with the territory. We know what we write isn't going to please everyone, and when that's the case, we swipe away a stray tear or two and move on to the next book. Because we're authors and that's what we do.

Did you also know that Amazon positions an author's book differently based on the number of reviews it has? It's true! For instance, often times, if your book has 25+ reviews, it will pop up under the section showing you what others have purchased who have also purchased whatever it is you're looking at. If you have 50+ reviews, then your chances of appearing in an Amazon newsletter increase significantly. And, if you're up over 100, then readers are more likely to 1-Click purchase your book over those who have far less reviews. Is this all fair? Probably not. But Amazon can pretty much do whatever they want.

For those of you who don’t me, I am the author of Raining Down Rules, a new adult contemporary romance novel. As a writer, it's commonplace to throw out author jargon, so in case you're not sure what new adult is, let me sum it up for you.

New Adult is a fairly new classification for novels (like young adult or women's fiction), and typically the main character(s) are between the ages of 18 and 26 who are attending college, or maybe working their first real job or possibly just living on their own for the first time. These characters also go through a period of self-discovery and come out at the end of the novel a better and stronger version of who they were at the beginning of the book.
